Re:Sources was launched with a great article by professor of film studies and blogger Chuck Tryon, Teaching Media Literacy in the Age of YouTube. I wanted to kick off this blog on that particular note because whatever we might say about creation, distribution, or even the policies that effect media production, all of us involved in the creation and exhibition of media should be thinking about how media shapes our society, about the larger context into which our work falls (feel free to disagree with me on that). In an effort to continue that thread of exploration, I’ll be drawing attention to film studies and teaching resources online. Here are some I was browsing this weekend, but please comment with your own suggestions and links, or email me at “aavarnum at gmail.”

The Film Journal - Published quarterly, this online publication has several critical essays on films old and new. There is also a more regularly updated blog published by editor Rick Curnutte.

Cineaste - You are probably familiar with the magazine, though you might not realize that some of the articles are posted online with each publication.

Senses of Cinema - Years ago, I found this site a bit to encyclopedic but it has blossomed into a fantastic resource for finding out about all things film.
