The Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota recently released a report by the Project on Regional and Industrial Economics (PRIE) entitled “Crossover: How Artists Build Careers Across Commercial, Nonprofit and Community Work” (download the PDF for free).

From the website, “this study finds that many artists’ work spans two or more sectors, that artists would increase such crossover if money were not an issue, and that each sector provides special artistic development opportunities.” Though media artists comprise only part of the study’s participants, the conclusions and actionable items definitely resonate (as far as I can tell) in this world. It is a bit chunky for a quick read but there is a comprehensive table of contents to guide you to relevant portions. It might be especially useful in informing grant applications for projects and arts organization activities.
