Back in my days in DC, I recall using the card catalog at the National Archives to do research for photos, videos and films. It was/is such a shame that so much of their collection still isn’t even housed in a digital database, let alone digitized for use. But times are changing quickly.

The New York Public Library is the latest addition to Flickr Commons, collections of photos from the best archives. NYPL joins the Smithsonian, the Library of Congress, the George Eastman House and the National Media Museum, to name a few, in sharing portions of their collections. Many of the materials are no longer copyright protected. It’s so wonderful to see this kind of material being made available.

BTW, lovin’ the Library’s blog! Thanks to @jmerriman for the tip.
